Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, is donating $100 million to the Obama Foundation in honour of Congressman, John Lewis who died last year.

John Lewis was a hero of the U.S. civil rights movement of the 1960’s. Jeff Bezos also asked that the plaza at the Obama Presidential Plaza be named after him. This is in addition to the donation.

Part of the statement by Jeff Bezos read: “Freedom fighters deserve a special place in the pantheon of heroes, and I can’t think of a more fitting person to honour with this gift than John Lewis.”
