The Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, in Niger State has again disassociated itself from the agitation by some persons for the actualization of a Biafra nation‎.
The group, led by the President, Chief Ezeugo Emmanuel, made its position known on Wednesday during a courtesy call on the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists in Niger State.
Emmanuel said there was the need to ‎douse tension in the country.‎
The group said Igbos in the northern part of the country, especially Niger State, are living peacefully with their host communities.
According to Emmanuel: “Igbos are peace loving people and must be appreciated.
“To douse the tension in the country, we need to be committed and our people will continue to be friendly and live in peace with other tribes in the entire country.”
Emmanuel pleaded with the Federal Government not to use force on the agitators so as to avoid the situation deteriorating.
“The Federal Government needs to dialogue with the group and this can be resolved amicably for us to have sustainable peace in Nigeria.”
Emmanuel said plans have been concluded to organize a summit in Suleja in Niger State on December 12, 2015, with the theme: Udo, Organiru Na Ako N’ Uche (Peace, Progress and Tact) under the chairmanship of Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyawu and a host of other prominent Nigerians.
