The National Population Commission (NPC) has called on residents of Awka South Local Government Area in Anambra to give its officers necessary information on their environment in readiness for the 2017 census exercise.

Anambra State Director of the NPC, Mr Joachim Ulsai , made the call on Sunday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka.

He spoke against the backdrop of the commissionā€™s plan to commence Enumeration Area Demarcation (EAD) on Monday in the state.

Ulsai said Anambra was one of the 29 states to be captured in the pilot test exercise and urged residents of the pilot LGAs to give honest information for a successful exercise, ahead of the 2017 exercise.

The director said that NPC officers would be in the field for data collection on residents in the communities that make up the local government area.

ā€œThe second phase of the EAD was inaugurated by the Chairman of the commission, Chief Eze Duruiheoma, ahead of the rescheduled conduct of the 2017 census exercise.

ā€œThe EAD constitutes the foundation on which the entire census architecture stands.

ā€œDuring the pre- census period, the total number of EAD and its distribution is required for census planning in the area of deployment of personnel, logistics and materials for pre-test, trial census, main census and post enumeration survey,ā€™ā€™ he said.

The first phase of the enumeration exercise took place between Nov. 26 and Dec. 26, 2015 with one local government in each of the six geo- political zone and Federal Capital Territorial (FCT) participating.

However, 29 LGAs in 29 states would be enumerated in the second phase.
